GROW TOGETHER ~ with your SPROUTS.

First Lessons in the Garden~

There's something so exciting about the expression of wonder on a childs face when they see " life " for the first time reaching out of the earth.

When our children were small and still full of wonder, I wanted to teach them all about the
joys of  connecting with nature.

The Finer Things~ by Joy Banks

What's hanging on your clothesline?

I am going back in time a bit, but I know there are some of you who still  remember the feeling of snuggling into a newly made bed with crisp sheets dried on the clothesline in the warm spring air.

Back in the days of my early girlhood I remember sleeping in a bed made with sheets that had been hanging on my mother’s clothes line all day soaking up the warm spring sun and the sweet smells of Mother Nature.

And to make it even better, Mother would iron the sheets and  pillow cases sealing in the outside freshness, adding to the already crisp texture.

With six children she had her work cut out for her…She would feed the sheets and pillow cases into her State of the Art Ideal Home Ironing Machine and they would come out perfect every time. Or maybe it just seemed that way to me.

Sleeping on crisp air dried linens was only the half of it. We didn’t have a finished bath at the time so mother heated water on the old wood stove. She filled the bucket and poured hot steaming water into a large galvanized tub.

In my mind there is still nothing better than crawling into a bed made by my mother with sheets that were hung on the line to dry after a hot bath.

Those memories will linger forever as some of the finer things in my life.

BEGINNINGS~ We home school! Now what?

If you read my first Follow Your Homeschooling Heart  post you're probably wondering, what a retired hair stylist/salon owner and a sales proffessional knew about homeschooling. Not a whole heck of a lot in the beginning. Neither of us were tie-dye wearing, (except the ones we make ourselves of course ) granola eating, (we eat plenty of granola around here) vegan, (we 're meat eaters ) bible thumping ( no thumping, but we do believe) believers.

DANDELIONS~ what are they good for?

I haven't met too many folks who feel this way about dandelions. Have you?
I've been reading up on what is probably one of the most hated weeds on our planet. DANDELIONS! At least by suburban lush green lawn fans. Hey, I would like my lawn to be nice and lush too but we share our lawn with the hated one...I have threatened to tear out half of it and plant more ground covers and low growing flowers along the edges of our lawn. This seems like a reasonable solution compared to spreading poison to get rid of the yellow carpet that appears in Mid March followed by a second showing during mid July.  I'm not sure if their bright yellow faces finally won me over or I just gave up the fight.

The ultimate time of renewal is just around the corner! Here's a little look at " things to come" here at Dandelion House and out and about in our neck of the woods  BEACH . Just saying the word brings a flush of excitment to my heart!
Warmer days are ahead and that means more time spent outdoors tending to all things GREEN AND COLORFUL!
