A KNOCK OUT ROSE PARADE

Happy Monday friends! Whew! I don't think I've ever been so happy to wake up to a misty day as I am today. We worked our tails off in the garden this weekend! (Well, some of them ) At this moment I'm happy to be nice and dry inside! Picture me in my comfy clothes, writing to you with a nice cup of hot coffee and Max by my side. I have to tell you I have fallen in love with Knock Out Roses! I simply adore everything about them. With blossoms ranging in color from the brightest pinks to the softest, subtle  pale pink and the most delicious pale yellow. Who wouldn't be smitten?

I also added a striking landscape rose called Coral Drift   made by the Introducers of the Knock Out Rose that reminds me of one of my favorite nail polish colors in a ground cover variety right near our deck.

The color is just mesmerizing, and the scent? Ooh La la!

As with any new love affair the thorns have yet to come out but the folks at the nursery swear by them as being disease resistant ( no powdery mildew) with blooms that start in mid- spring and last until the first frost. Sounds like the perfect marriage of a rose Gardner and rose to me!
My established gardens were missing some mid -late spring color pop and fragrance, but not anymore!  The shape of the blossoms remind me of the wild roses ( sea roses ) that bloom in mass profusion along the road to our cottage.

Do any of you grow either of these hardy beauties in your garden?
I'm sharing this post with Heidi's Country Garden Showcase , The Homestead Barnhop,
and An Oregon Cottage Tuesday Garden Party!

  1. I don't grow any of these, but I do grow many roses. Most of which I have received from my mother. She had over 100 roses in her garden. When she passed away in 2005, I dug up about a dozen and am pleased to have a lovely garden dedicated to her.

I especially love the last rose in your photos, it really does remind me of an old wild rose.

You have a beautiful blog and I just joined so I can follow you. I will also add you to my blog roll so I won't miss out on your garden. Have a beautiful (restful) day.

    1. Hi Carla and welcome! Well, it sounds as if you are a pro rose gardener. I love that you have a rose garden in your mothers memory. She must have passed on her green rose thumb to you! Thank you for the visit! Enjoy this day!

  2. I love my knock out roses. They just keep blooming all summer long. But here in the NW nursery's have decided they are gold and the prices have jump tremendously, yikes! I guess there is a demand now for these beauties and they are going to capitalize on the market. Sad because I wanted another plant but won't pay their prices. Maybe next year, so for this year I will enjoy the once I have and enjoy your pictures of yours!

    1. Hi Junebug! I'm looking forward to the long lastding blooms too... Here in the Northeast they have grown popular as well, but prices are still reasonable. Maybe you could order online for a better deal? Thanks for the visit!

  3. I work at a nursery caring for the roses and the Knock Outs seem to be very disease resistant. Last year was the first time I had seen the drift roses and I planted one in a pot for display, it looked really nice and bloomed its heart out so I took home a peach colored one and planted it. It has just started blooming and I am loving it!

  4. Hi Deb! These types of roses are great. They love to be fed and so far I have had pretty good success with them on Cape. Your photos are so lovely and they brought a smile to my day, as much as imagining you with your coffee and Max! Have a wonderful day!

    1. Hi Dolly! They are healthy and the colors are almost electric! They make a wonderful contrast to all the green we are surrounded by in our area! And, they are very pretty in front of a picket fence! :) Have a great day Dolly!

  7. I have one of these, purchased reluctantly from a co-worker for her son's band fund raiser. Little did I know what a gem I had. Mine sits at the corner of my front porch, getting a west or southwest exposure. I rarely water it and the downspout misses it. I never prune it and the only problem I ever have is those pesky japanese beetles. It started out several years ago in a gallon container and it's now at least 7-8 ft tall and I don't even know how big around. Amazing rose. One drawback, it doesn't have the fragrance as the old varieties.

  8. Hi Kathy, I hope mine is as self-sufficient as yours sounds...I find these to be very fragrant! A light but ever present scent for sure! Enjoy your rose!

    1. Hi Country Gal! Oh, I do hope the bugs stay away from your rose this year... My Lady Banks Rose has tiny worms munching away on it right now that I need to take care of, if you get my drift! Thanks for the visit!

  10. We only have some climbing roses that were here when we bought this land. I have never been a rose grower and think maybe I should try a couple of these you have listed.

  14. I've never tried Knockout Roses, but I have heard many good things about them, including that they are a good choice for areas where other roses might not survive. Yours are lovely in bloom!

    1. Athena, I've only tried a few Old English Roses in my garden over the years and what I don't like about many of them is that the bloom time is too short. I'm hoping the Knock Out Roses will satisfy me in the blooms department!

  16. Hello Sonya! Yes, they do produce rose hips! We've got some in our yard at the cottage too, I just might try making jam with them this year! I don't think we can pick the ones along the beach road... Darn-it!
