Farmgirl Friday blog hop # 14

Welcome to Farmgirl Friday # 14! We had 39 terrific entries last week!  Thank you for all you share each week!  It turns out that we DO in fact have a rooster...but, it's not the chicken I thought it was... While I was inside the run this week " bonding " with the chicken  that I thought  was our Rudy Ru, all of a sudden I heard a cock a doodle do coming from a different chicken! This chicken!

He's a handsome fella and I love his crow even though it's at 4:45 am! How many of you have roosters and how has it worked out for you? Do you have harmony in your hen houses? Do tell!

Bloomin' Tuesday

It's Bloomin' Tuesday over at Ms. Green thumb jean blog spot and I'm headed over there  to show off  my Tuesday Bloomer's!  No, not those bloomers... the ones in my Garden! Come see!

There's a lot of mingling amongst the flowers in my garden right now. Hydrangea with day-lilies. I love that color combination together. I'm thinking about repeating it in a different area of the garden!

I'm not sure what the delicate purple flower is sprouting up through my Autumn Sedum Joy but it sure is pretty! It might be a weed....

The Oak Leaf Hydrangea is beginning to flower...And the

Salmon colored Cone flower, Lavender and Yarrow are coming on strong right now too!

The yellow Lady Banks Climbing Rose is an early spring bloomer and new to my garden as of this year. I sewed some nasturtium seeds in late spring camouflage the mound that I planted it in. Today, when I looked I noticed they have tiny flower buds on them! Even though they are not " officially " blooming, I just had to show you the GIANT leaves on this variety. They're like elephant ears! Maybe they like good chicken manure soil!

Hopefully I'll have some lovely blossoms to show you from them next Tuesday!

 The Bee Balm and Clover Root are still teasing me this week... not quite in bloom....

Daisy's in front of the Clover Root add a bright spot to a partially shaded area of the bed.

Potted annuals for a burst of color and some simple fresh herbs placed on the deck for easy access

This mint will be perfect in a fresh glass of homemade sun tea!

We have a few bloomer's at the Cottage too! 

These Rhododendrons were from a few weeks ago. They are just so lush and colorful I had to share them with you! 

The vibrant pink of this Lambs Ear just radiates off of the subtle gray shingles of the Cottage. 

The raised beds we added this year have tomatoes, bush beans, a cucumber bush, basil and cilantro growing in them. The galvanized tin catches rain water for easy watering.

Farmgirl Friday blog hop # 13

Isn't this a neat old vintage post card? I thought if would be perfect for today's Farmgirl Friday! 

I thought I'd give you a little update on the Cottage Hen's and the new chicks... and maybe a dude too???

Yep, I think we have a rooster in our new batch of chickens. My husband and I swear we could hear him trying to crow the last two mornings! The new girls are about 11 weeks old and the chicken we suspect to be our Rudy the Rooster is a bit larger, more assertive and trying to crow in the morning...

If it walks like  a rooster and talks like a rooster, it's probably a rooster. Not sure what we'll do with him. He's already quite handsome... He's second to the end with a head of black feathers and gold and black on his chest. I think he and the other girls, Penelope and Lucille are wondering why Stevie is causing such a ruckus on the roosting bar! She's the one with her tail feathers pointed the opposite way in the middle!  I kind of like his little sound, but hubs says it won't be so little in a few weeks and who knows how assertive he'll become with the ladies once he's a full blown Rooster! Right now there is harmony in the hen house! That's the latest from the Little Red Hen House. I'll keep you posted.

Pretty Summer Pickets

Happy first day of Summer dear blogging friends! 

It has been just glorious in our part of New England this past week.

I love picket fences any time of year but rose covered in summer has to be my most favorite time to view them. Lately I have had the urge to photograph them. This tour is a sampling of my most recent adventure in capturing some picket fence garden romance! Are you lucky enough to have your very own pickets in your yard or garden somewhere? I hope so, but just in case you're crazy for pickets like me, still pinin' for your own someday, pour yourself something refreshing, sit back and enjoy!

Melissa of Tilly's Nest is coming to do a photo shoot of our Little Red Hen House and meet the Cottage Hens.  I spent most of today fluffing the nest to get ready! Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 11

 

Welcome to Farmgirl Friday blog hop # 11! Where has the last ten weeks gone? I am amazed at all the creative and talented people who enter this hop each week  I wish I could get around to leave a note on your barn door all the time, but as you know " life happens" and of late it's been taking place out doors!
We got our newest batch of  Ameraucana chicks settled into their new run but had to add a couple more feet to the top of the fence because we have a resident coyote who's discovered them! We heard some loud cacklin' coming from the run at 5: 30 am yesterday and we spotted the coyote running around the run, trying to get the girls to fly out! Thank goodness all are safe and sound. I love the coloring on this breeds feathers. Each one is so unique.
