Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 204 Farmers Market News!

Howdy girlfriends! Welcome back to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop! You may have noticed we've been a little hit or miss with our summer round ups here. My new flower farming adventure has me very busy in the garden and I'm also taking my backyard blooms to the Plymouth Farmers Market twice a month. It's a lot of work but I love the joy-filled hours in the garden and spending time with my mom and daughter at the market on Thursdays.
Catch up with us on the Beach Farmgirl Blog for all of our flower farming and market day news.

Debbie  ( Farmgirl Unleashed )  has been busy traveling, gardening and spending time with her family which is what summer is all about, right? We're both in the thick of it ( summer, that is ) and you probably are too!

We want to hear all about what you're up to your farmgirl bloomers in too!
So leave us an entry and a note on the farm gate on your way out!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 203 and Instagram

Woot!  Welcome back to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop farmgirls. We missed seeing all of you last week. We hope you had a terrific 4th and are enjoying a beautiful summer.

Somehow, summer has gotten very busy all of a sudden. My co-hostess, Debbie ( Farmgirl Unleashed)  has been traveling with her sweet hubby, Mike making summer fun and cherry pie with cherries they purchased at a cherry festival they went to. Keeping up with their travels makes me want to hit the open road ( or nearby ferry) in search of new adventures, but, as you know, I'm grounded right here in my flower farm tending my summer blooms. I've been so bloomin' busy outside I'm way behind on the inside. But oh, you should see the gardens! Well, you CAN see all my latest postings on Instagram. I swore I wouldn't add another social media platform to use but once I got my new smart phone it's just so easy to set up and snap a photo and post it that I'm hooked!
You can follow Farmgirl Unleashed on Instagram too. Wouldn't it be fun to keep up with each other there as well?
Leave us a comment if you are on Instagram and we'll come follow you!

What are YOU stirring up this week? Gather round and toss your post in the pot! Thanks for joining us again!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 202 and Happy 4th of July!

An American Bouquet! Red dahlias, with blue and white hydrangea.
Welcome back to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!

Are you ready for a festive FARMGIRL 4th of July? What do you and your family enjoy doing for the 4th? We enjoy a traditional American holiday with all the fixins'. We usually do a cook out, and I make my strawberry/blueberry shortcake for desert. This year both kids are working on the actual holiday so we will celebrate early when we can all be together. We will find a place to ooh and ah over the fireworks and take a moment to appreciate our freedom.

Did you know there's another American celebration happening right now too? It's American Flowers Week! Debra Prinzing, author of Slow Flowers created American Flowers Week in celebration of American Grown Flowers in 50 states. What a brilliant idea!
It's an entire week set aside for sharing 100% American Grown Flowers. So of course, I'm in.

It's easy to participate. Just create a bouquet using flowers grown by you or purchased from your local flower farmer with an American theme in mind and share it on your social media using #americanflowersweek! I shared my American Bouquet ( top photo) on instagram and Facebook this week.
I'll keep you posted on flower farm happenings each week right here in my weekly garden notes posts. In the meantime, send some sunshine over to Debbie ( Farmgirl Unleashed). Her tomatoes are drowning!

Time to link up for YOUR weekly dose of farmgirl soul-food!
If you've got it flaunt it! It's Farmgirl Friday!

Debbie and I wish you all a safe and happy holiday weekend! As always, thanks for sharing your farmgirl talents with us every week!

Garden Notes With Deb: July Buds

Dahlia Anemone Flowering Florinoor
Howdy friends,
Happy July! Don't you think this budding dahlia looks like a firecracker about to explode?
The whole garden is filled to the brim with the first wave of summer buds about to burst open and fill the air with and explosion of color. Quite fitting for July, don't you think?

Everything planted out in mid-May - Early June is thriving despite the cool June weather we had. I think it's been a blessing to the tender greens and I'll take working under a protective cloud cover over high heat and humidity any day.

All of the seeds I sowed germinated in good time and the mild temperatures were easy on the tender, new sprouts.

Thriving dahlia beds.

Top of my to-Do list for this month is to get the last of the seeds sown in the new raised beds and finish mulching. One of the benefits of growing cuts in raised beds is I don't have to invest in large rolls of weed barrier fabric. Come springtime I turn it into the remaining soil and I'm ready to start new seeds.

My generous neighbor took pity on me when he saw how big my mulch pile was at the top of our driveway and lent me his vintage 10 tine hand cultivator tool. He inherited it from his brother and I felt lucky to be able to put it to use again. What a breeze it was lifting the mulch into the wheelbarrow with this tool.

Frames for additional raised beds.

Only 4 more to fill and I can finish planting for the season. I have to pace myself but it's a great flower farmgirl workout!

All in all things are looking hopeful for a successful season here on the farm and at the Farmers Market. Being a seasonal flower farmer ( growing outside) I am at the mercy of the weather. If all goes well I should be swimming in cut flowers in a few short weeks!

And, wait until you see what I picked up at The Vintage Bazaar for my display at the Farmers Market! Stay tuned!
What's happening in your garden patch, field, pot or plot?

PS. I'm on instagram now!  Look me up @ Dandelion-House (with a hyphen). Come follow my patch of wonderful and I'll follow you back.
