Farmgirl Friday blog hop # 14

Welcome to Farmgirl Friday # 14! We had 39 terrific entries last week!  Thank you for all you share each week!  It turns out that we DO in fact have a rooster...but, it's not the chicken I thought it was... While I was inside the run this week " bonding " with the chicken  that I thought  was our Rudy Ru, all of a sudden I heard a cock a doodle do coming from a different chicken! This chicken!

Mr. Rudy Ru

He's a handsome fella and I love his crow even though it's at 4:45 am! How many of you have roosters and how has it worked out for you? Do you have harmony in your hen houses? Do tell!

Now, it's your turn to link up for your weekly dose of farmgirl soul food!

Here are the rules for the Farmgirl Friday blog hop:

1.) Write a post about your farmgirl lifestyle and brag a little about your farmgirl talents while your at it! Share what being a farmgirl means to you. Include lots of photos of your farm, crafts, animals, quilts, home decor projects and thrifty make overs, your backyard garden, hen house, studio or workshop. You get the idea!
2). Leave a permalink in the Mr. Linky space to your Farmgirl Friday post.
3). Please include the Farmgirl Friday button ( or link back here ) in your post.

I'm wishing you all a safe and Festive Fourth! Visit my MJF Beach blog post for an old fashioned New England Fourth of July!

I have a very nice orange rooster that gets along quite well with the girls and is nice with me. He's pretty cool. Hope yours is friendly.

The human kicked our Naughty Rooster Boy out of the coop because he was mean to the other rooster. She thought he'd be a raccoon snack. That was a year and a half ago. Now he's sometimes mean to the human.

We have a rooster too and he certainly does bother the ladies but we never end up with chicks. He was mean at first, to me, but after I picked him up and held him upside down while explaining just who was the boss, we got along just fine. Our old rooster died fighting a raccoon to protect his hens. As unfortunate as it was that he died, he did his job.

He is good looking, but I'd want to give him a good talking to about that 4:45 am crow. 5:00 or 5:30 would work better for me!

We don't have a rooster...just hens...I think I'll keep it that way. Kinda like I don't want to have a bull for my cows either...I just rent a bull for a short period of time...much less damage to fences etc...

Thanks for hosting!!

I do love my Chicken Boy Bravo and had him for 3yrs, but he is bothersome to the girls so have been separated..Ironically I mentioned it in this weeks post...If I can find him a good home where he will be taken care of then he will go...His size is also an issue...he is HUGE and I want to get some Silkie Bantams but at that would not be a good mix at the moment.

Blessings Kelsie

We had a really nice Black Jersey Giant rooster but the hens kept pecking at his feet until they almost pecked one of his toes off so we found him a good home with nicer chickens!

Funny story you have there! He's a handsome rooster! Hopefully he fits in well. Our rooster is great, he does his job, has given us a few chicks and crows whenever something is worth crowing about, even late at night! He's like a guard dog. Only thing is, he doesn't have a handsome tail, the hens seem to like to keep it 'trimmed!'

My rooster (only one) is in rooster jail for beating up a duck. I think he will be there for quite awhile. I am not getting over it.
Yours chickens are so nice looking!

I do have a rooster. He is just learning to crow. My Dh said it sounds so funny. I haven't heard it yet.
