The NEW 2016 Farm Girl Friday Blog Hop

Dear farmgirls,

This post to you has been sitting in my drafts folder for weeks. You may have noticed that the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop has been quite sporadic over the last couple of months and I'm sorry about that. Hosting the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop has been an important highlight of my blogging career and although it's been hard to admit to myself, I just don't have time to keep it going on a regular basis. But don't despair! I'm turning over the reigns to Debbie ( my co-host ) over at Farmgirl Unleashed! You'll be in good hands. Debbie and her husband farm at Big Sky Acres in Indiana. Debbie writes about her new farm-life experiences as she unleashes her inner farmgirl.

Starting next Friday, Feb 12th Debbie will begin hosting the NEW Farm Girl Friday Blog Hop. You'll get a new button to share in your posts and Debbie let me know that she'll be looking for a new co-hostess to help corral some new farmgirls to the hop.

Both of us want to thank you all for joining in every Friday and we look forward to seeing you every week going forward. I'll still be here... tapping away and I'll be popping by the hop to say howdy and share some of my flower farming posts too!

So, for old times sake, let's link up one last time from Dandelion House, for some good old-fashioned farmgirl soul food!

Farmgirl hugs!!!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 207

Howdy friends! Welcome back to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!
Your place to share your best recipes, crafts, DIY projects, farm stories, farm animal tips, and vintage treasures and what ever else you fancy.

I hope you are all settling in to fall. It's such a wonderful time of year for getting out and enjoying milder weather, beautiful scenery and delicious food that celebrates harvest season.

Where have we been the last month? I apologize for going missing. This farmgirl had her hands busy with all things flowers this year and somehow our little ole hop ended up at the bottom of the pile. It was a season of growth inside and out!
Apple Stuffed Acorn Squash with Craisins
It's about to get cold and dark out and we're gonna need each-other over the long winter months ahead. To spice things up in our kitchen, I promised myself I would make more " new recipes" rather than fall-back on my old stand-by meals. This week I made a delicious Apple Stuffed Acorn Squash with Craisins and boy was it yummy! I found the recipe online in MaryJanesFarm Recipe of the
Week. You can read all about it in my Beach Farmgirl post here.

What have you been cooking up now that the weather has a chill in it? Do tell!

My farmgirl co-hostess, Debbie and I have missed our hop so let's get to it!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #206

 Happy Farmgirl Friday farmgirls!

The first week in September is always a whirlwind if you've got back to school or ( off to college) aged kids in the house isn't it? I always feel like I've just gotten into my summer groove and it's time to start back to school shopping already. With our youngest off to her freshmen year in a local college this year I'll have plenty of time for indoor painting projects and feathering the nest. Luckily it's not completely empty, yet but it's a comin'. Sniff, sniff.

I'm holding on to my baby AND  these last few weeks of summer because I'm still " in the flowers " as my family likes to say.  I'm even dreaming about them at night!
Take it from this flower farmgirl,

The power of flowers is a strong and wonderful spell to be under.

This is one of my recent bridal bouquet mock-ups created with seasonal blooms from my little backyard flower farm. The combination of the soft pink of the Cafe Au Lait dahlia, deep royal purple dahlias with a mix of earthy greens and lacy dusty miller makes for an earthy, yet romantic feeling. The bride and groom are having an intimate backyard ceremony and celebration with local food, FLOWERS and music.
Tell us, are you seeing more local flowers at events and family celebrations these days?

My farmgirl co-hostess Debbieand her sweet hubby Mike, are working in the garden and mid-way through a kitchen DIY project. Aren't they ambitious? I can't wait until it's finished. I hope she posts pics.. Hint, hint!!!

I bet your kitchens and gardens are bursting as you work hard to preserve this season harvest.
Share it all right here with your farmgirl friends from far and wide.
It's a three day weekend too, so have fun and be safe where ever you are.

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 205

Welcome back farmgirls! I don't want to admit it but I was almost positive I could smell Fall in the air last week. And, I'm beginning to daydream about inside painting projects that I want to complete before the time change goes into effect. I know!!! What am I thinking? There's still a whole month of Farmers Markets ahead and two September weddings to design flowers for. I'm not the least bit ready to say goodbye to summer, I just find it interesting how we humans are so biologically tied to the seasons don't you?
Debbie ( my farmgirl co-Hort) and her hubby are knee-deep in a DIY kitchen remodel right now and watching green tomatoes on the vine for any signs of blush pink or red tinges.
They're counting the days till harvest time.

It's time for another great round up of farmgirl posts!
Let's see what cha got!
Have a great weekend and we'll see you on the hop!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 199

Welcome to the 199th Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop farmgirls!
How long have you been coming to this hop?
It's hard to believe we're just one hop away from our 200th Farmgirl Friday Anniversary!

Debbie ( Farmgirl Unleashed ) and I have an amazing Farmgirl-y giveaway planned so be sure to come by next week, share your posts and enter!

We harvested our first rhubarb this week so I made pie of course!
I shared a recipe for Sweet Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie on the Beach Farmgirl Blog
You'll never guess what's inside this pie, besides strawberries and rhubarb.

Debbie and her hubby added two new hives this week. She's got the scoop on the whole set-up here.

It's a busy time of year with the school year coming to an end, graduations, weddings, and the rush of getting every thing planted too, but I wouldn't have it any other way, would you?

Here's to a fabulous FARMGIRL week!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 198

Woot! It' Farmgirl Friday! Time to grab a glass of something cold ( wine, coke, water, tea, iced coffee) and relax with the Farmgirl Friday Girls!

There's so much going on this time of year and farmgirls are always busy with something. Whether outside tending newly planted fields and gardens, feeding animals, chasing chickens or herding kids one thing you can be sure of... We are having fun!

This week I decided to start a new blog series called Wednesday Garden Notes with Deb: Here's where I'll share creative seeds from my budding flower farm and the ups an downs too! I hope you'll stop by and share what's doin in your gardens too.

Last week, our friend Elaine from Woods Country Cove shared some of her fresh cut lilacs on the hop. We could smell them all the way from Canada, Elaine! Thank you! Elaine spends her time capturing life in the country through her camera lens. She's a pro at getting the birds and squirrels to pose for her but the star of her blog is Miggs, the family dog.

I always feel like I've had a day in the country when I visit Elaine and Ken and all the critters at The Country Cove...
Stop by and say howdy sometime! They'd love to hear from you!

My friend and co-host Debbie ( Farmgirl Unleashed ) has a farm update from Big Sky Acres. She's just returned home and I know she's anxious to catch up with her " green babies" inside the pole barn and out in the field!

As always, thanks for joining in each week. Debbie and I wish you a fun-filled farmgirl week!
We'll see you on the hop!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 194

Welcome back to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop! Where farmgirls from far and wide gather to strut their stuff in all things  homesteading, DIY, traditional crafts and skills and yummy recipes from the BEST homestead kitchens! Check out our Farmgirl Friday Kitchen Pinterest Board. You'll find over over 400 down home recipes. You're sure to find something deliciously homemade whether it be a main dish, desert or appetizer. If it's canning information you're looking for there's plenty of that too!

Something else farmgirls are very good at is re-purposing. It's in our blood I think! I was bowled over by the amazing piano table Lyn Moon from Re purposed for Life blog created! It reminded me of an old piano my in-laws have in their entry hall that would be amazing as a keepsake for a family member who wanted to take on such a challenge. Hm? I just might know someone!

What a beautiful way to preserve a family heirloom or show off your love of music in your home. And what a creative conversation starter, too!

What's new in your farmgirl world this week? Let it all hang out with Debbie  ( who is off enjoying some family time with her adorable grandson and dog sitting ) and I and we'll see you on the hop!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 189

 Dear farmgirl friends,
Woot! Woot!
Welcome back to another week of Farmgirl Fun!

I don't know about you, but I'm  feeling a little giddy about springing ahead this weekend! Just that one hour of extra daylight is all I need to turn my back on winter until next year! But that's not the only reason I'm doing the happy dance.
My April/May issue of MaryJanesFarm Magazine is about to arrive any day now! I adore each and every issue of this magazine. Even though I contribute to it as the Beach Farmgirl Blogger and my in print features, Yet another GIRL GENIUS with Deb, I'm still just a MaryJanesFarm farmgirl groupie at heart!

This issue is extra special to me because two of my dear friends are being featured! Both of them so talented and generous. Each of them have sponsored giveaways for Dandelion House and many others too!

My GIRL GENIUS in the upcoming issue is the talented Sarah Hudock!

She's the funny and talented creator of Light Hearted Chicken Art Tin Signs and more! Keep your eyes peeled for another giveaway in the spring, featuring her NEW designs for 2015.

Sarah also does custom signs too, like the one pictured above for Tredway Farm!

MaryJane Butters has written a 6 page spread on prolific author, illustrator, writer and speaker, Sharon Lovejoy.  If you have children, or grandchildren, and you garden then you probably know Sharon too!
With titles like Hollyhock Days, Sunflower Houses and Roots Shoots Buckets and Boots, how can you resist? Visit Sharon's book store for more garden inspiration!

I know you'll love getting to know these two farmgirls better so pick be sure to go out and get a copy of MaryJanesFarm Magazine or subscribe here!

There's way more farmgirl fun to enjoy in the pages of MaryJanesFarm!

Now it's time to get YOUR farmgirl on!!! Link up your favorite posts for all things, farm, garden, home, crafts, bees, chickens, goats, llamas, homesteading, DIY etc... and be sure to leave a note on the garden gate on your way out!

My co-hostess Debbie, of Farmgirl Unleashed  has been praying the recent snowfall doesn't have her doing the sump- pump boogie again but she's not letting that stop her from garden planning and winter beekeeping chores. Be sure to stop by and see her amazing succession planting spreadsheet and a look at how her hives held up this winter!
We are so glad you stop by to share with us each week!

Happy Friday, farmgirls!
Have a great week! See you on the hop!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 188

Howdy friends!

Welcome back to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!

We took a little re-fresh break this month but we're back and so looking forward to your entries!

Spring on the farm is always such an exciting time! New chicks, lambing season, goats and garden planning, not to mention a field trip or two to get your farmgirl on.

If you're a New England farmgirl and you're looking for a spring-inspired field-trip mark your calendar for the Heirloom Festival in historic Wethersfield, CT. on May 24th, 2015.

Heirloom seeds and seedlings will be available as well as top speakers and vendors! I'm planning on going. I want to bring home some rare heirloom flower seeds and seedlings for my garden this year. Any chance some of my Dandelion House friends will be there?

What are your favorite farmgirl spring haunts?

My co-hostess Debbie, of Farmgirl Unleashed  has been boning up on succession planting for Big Sky Acres this year.  She and her hubby Mike are taking on a large section of their farm for growing more flowers and veggies. Be sure to stop by and say howdy!

Now, whatcha been up to these last couple of weeks?

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 186

Happy Farmgirl Friday y'all! Welcome to the farm, the virtual farm that is. Your place to play farmgirl with your best gal pals from all over the web! There's never any shortage of FARMGIRL inspiration in the posts you share here each week which is why we can't imagine Friday's with out YOU!

Here at Dandelion House we are slowly making our way out of the two plus feet of snow that fell in the Blizzard we had earlier this week. We lost the greenhouse in the high winds and our garden gazebo that covers the deck, but the good news is the chickens are fine! I did have to do a little coaxing to get them to come out of the coop though! Have a listen!
BEWARE! I am no Hollywood producer!

Despite the damages I'm excited about a new growing season that grows nearer with each falling snowflake. Get the full storm report here! Here's hoping my New England friends survived the storm with minimul damages.

Let's get hoppin'!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 183 PLUS a Farmgirl Outing to The Northeastern Poultry Congress

Woot! Woot! Happy Farmgirl Friday on Sunday! I hope you're getting some fun in this weekend along with your daily rounds. I was able to sneak away to the Northeaster Poultry Congress  (from Chicks to Champs ) in Springfield, MA yesterday with my friend Melissa from Tilly's Nest. Here's a great post she wrote for Community Chickens you might like to check out if you've ever thought about going to a Poultry show.

We had a blast looking at all the different breeds of chickens and listening to the roosters crow and the geese honk all day long. Plus we got to meet some of our blogging friends in person too! That's always a treat!

Imagine about 50 or more rows just like this one filled with all sizes, colors and breeds of poultry! You might think that it would be pretty smelly inside but I learned that the chickens don't get fed prior to judging. They get water but no food until they've been judged. Afterwards they can eat their little chicken hearts out.

There was so much going on I had a hard time deciding where to point my camera. But then I spotted this little gal giving her pet chicken a work out on the obstacle course and I had to get a closer look. Adults, juniors and children alike enter their birds in various categories in hopes of placing high or even winning a championship.

It was so heartwarming to watch the youngster with their birds. They were so passionate and knowledgeable about their hobby and showed such poise and maturity, especially while under the judges watchful eye like this group of juniors in the showmanship class below.

This pretty girl is a Blue Orpington.

This Barred Rock Cockerel ( a domestic bird under a year old ) was quite the handsome fella!
It's a lot to take in in one day, but so worth going ( at least once ) if you're a backyard chicken keeper or maybe you and your children are looking for a way to add some competitive fun to an already enjoyable hobby.

So, that was my chick-filled farmgirl outing this weekend!

Before you get hopping be sure to check out the latest Giveaway! Carole West of Garden Up Green is giving away one download of her new eBook Quail, Getting Started. One more day to enter here!

Debbie of Farmgirl Unleashed  ( my co- hostess and farmgirl in crime )  and I are looking forward to watching your year unfold and we've got  more great  FARMGIRL GIVEAWAYS planned for you too!

Time to link-up and play some Farmgirl Show and Tell with us!
