A GATHERING we will go~

Image from  Wiltsi Bridge Country Store " New " vintage inspired wire baskets.

It won't be long and our basket will be over flowing  with more eggs than we can handle! I've been collecting our eggs in a bright red bucket for a few years now, but lately I've had my eye on what you might call the " real deal " for collecting eggs properly and safely.

Wire egg baskets were designed in such a way that you can stack many fresh eggs inside with out the worry of breaking them before you get them inside and into your next delicious egg dish. The blue one above is a new model from Lehmans. It mimics antique wire baskets in shape but it has has plastic coating to prevent rusting.

These are primitive wire egg baskets I found at an online antique store.. I rather like these. They are so cute you could collect and store them in one container!
This one is adorable and available through amazon with faux eggs inside for decorative purposes, but I think you could ditch the fake eggs and use it for collecting.

This fellow is handsome and would make a nice addition to your farmhouse kitchen! You're sure to run across some antique wire egg baskets in your local antique mall, antique stores, and online at Ebay and Etsy too!

What do you collect your farm fresh eggs in?

Well....I would love to say I use a cute wire egg basket, when in reality I use a white plastic bucket! I do however break one now and then.....so maybe I should look into buying a REAL egg basket...lol!

Those wire baskets look great, especially the first ones! Unfortunately, I collect my eggs in a supermarket cart... but a girl can dream:@)

I have a blue basket just like that.
It is nice to collect eggs with,no breaking them.

I love the egg baskets. Reminds me of a story about my grandfather. He and his brother loaded up his youngest nephew with all fo the egg from the hen house. In every pocket of overalls. Thing is little Bob couldn't walk very well. They told him to take the eggs to his mother and sent him back to the house unaided. There wasn't many eggs left, but one heck of a mess. His sister-in-law didn't let grandpa in the house for weeks. Egg baskets are good things.

We use a wire egg basket that I bought at a local flea market. But it is pretty deep and we only have 12 chickens, so when the grands come they do not always stick their little short arms far enough in before letting go. I think I will start putting a kitchen towel in the bottom when they come to help. I like your red bucket, red is my favorite color at this time.

Deborah Jean,

I just went to your page The Cottage Hens to show my children your hen house. So lovely!

We collect our eggs in a wire basket purchased from Hobby Lobby, sometimes a basket, and sometimes my little boys bring them to me in their pockets. They've been quite surprised on a few occasions to have one accidentally break and leave them with a pocketful of raw egg:) Our little girls like to collect them in their dress/apron when they forget the basket. The Dollar store in our area frequently has wire baskets very similar to your blue one for only $1.00, and I've also seen them at Flee Markets. I have VERY fond memories of my great grandfather's egg basket. I can still see it very clearly in my mind. It was a handwoven homemade basket. Funny how some things just bring back sweet memories.

Blessings,

Sherry

I have a few different wire baskets I use, they go right into the bottom of the fridge to store my eggs. But sometimes, like as not, they just go into the empty feed pail for the trip back to the house! I have an apron for collecting too, with one big pocket, I use it at the end of the collecting day when there aren't as many eggs. We've been making pound cakes to freeze with our excess eggs! See recipes for them on my blog!

I love my wire egg baskets. When we've had to use a 5 gallon bucket it was unbelievably heavy. I'll stick to my wire ones.

Those baskets are so beautiful. I might have to think about one of those, but right now my girls are all old and I don't get very many. I just carry them in my hands.
