The NEW 2016 Farm Girl Friday Blog Hop

Dear farmgirls,

This post to you has been sitting in my drafts folder for weeks. You may have noticed that the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop has been quite sporadic over the last couple of months and I'm sorry about that. Hosting the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop has been an important highlight of my blogging career and although it's been hard to admit to myself, I just don't have time to keep it going on a regular basis. But don't despair! I'm turning over the reigns to Debbie ( my co-host ) over at Farmgirl Unleashed! You'll be in good hands. Debbie and her husband farm at Big Sky Acres in Indiana. Debbie writes about her new farm-life experiences as she unleashes her inner farmgirl.

Starting next Friday, Feb 12th Debbie will begin hosting the NEW Farm Girl Friday Blog Hop. You'll get a new button to share in your posts and Debbie let me know that she'll be looking for a new co-hostess to help corral some new farmgirls to the hop.

Both of us want to thank you all for joining in every Friday and we look forward to seeing you every week going forward. I'll still be here... tapping away and I'll be popping by the hop to say howdy and share some of my flower farming posts too!

So, for old times sake, let's link up one last time from Dandelion House, for some good old-fashioned farmgirl soul food!

Farmgirl hugs!!!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 207

Howdy friends! Welcome back to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!
Your place to share your best recipes, crafts, DIY projects, farm stories, farm animal tips, and vintage treasures and what ever else you fancy.

I hope you are all settling in to fall. It's such a wonderful time of year for getting out and enjoying milder weather, beautiful scenery and delicious food that celebrates harvest season.

Where have we been the last month? I apologize for going missing. This farmgirl had her hands busy with all things flowers this year and somehow our little ole hop ended up at the bottom of the pile. It was a season of growth inside and out!
Apple Stuffed Acorn Squash with Craisins
It's about to get cold and dark out and we're gonna need each-other over the long winter months ahead. To spice things up in our kitchen, I promised myself I would make more " new recipes" rather than fall-back on my old stand-by meals. This week I made a delicious Apple Stuffed Acorn Squash with Craisins and boy was it yummy! I found the recipe online in MaryJanesFarm Recipe of the
Week. You can read all about it in my Beach Farmgirl post here.

What have you been cooking up now that the weather has a chill in it? Do tell!

My farmgirl co-hostess, Debbie and I have missed our hop so let's get to it!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 205

Welcome back farmgirls! I don't want to admit it but I was almost positive I could smell Fall in the air last week. And, I'm beginning to daydream about inside painting projects that I want to complete before the time change goes into effect. I know!!! What am I thinking? There's still a whole month of Farmers Markets ahead and two September weddings to design flowers for. I'm not the least bit ready to say goodbye to summer, I just find it interesting how we humans are so biologically tied to the seasons don't you?
Debbie ( my farmgirl co-Hort) and her hubby are knee-deep in a DIY kitchen remodel right now and watching green tomatoes on the vine for any signs of blush pink or red tinges.
They're counting the days till harvest time.

It's time for another great round up of farmgirl posts!
Let's see what cha got!
Have a great weekend and we'll see you on the hop!

Your Weekly Dish: Roasted Taters With Rosemary

Hot out of the oven!
I love being in my homestead kitchen this time of year. It feels great to be able to turn on the oven again and be comforted by the smell of a hot, home-cooked meal. One of our favorite side dishes for any kind of meat is roasted taters with fresh rosemary. And, I love the ease of tossing together what ever root veggies we have on hand. I've used small red potatoes with white or golden potatoes as well, but what makes this recipe unique is the added flavor of sweet potatoes.
Before baking.
We came up with this winning combination when my hubby needed a quick recipe to contribute to a Boy Scout camp pot luck. Naturally, I wanted to show you this dish cooked, but I think it looks so appetizing and pretty with the rosemary tucked in just before going in the oven.
Here's the recipe!  It's organic, of course!

Roasted Rosemary Potatoes
 5 or 6 medium potatoes
1 or 2 large sweet potatoes ( yams)
1 medium sweet onion
4 -5 small sprigs of fresh rosemary
1/4 - 1/2 cup olive oil
1  fresh clove or 1 teaspoon minced garlic
Sea Salt and pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 375
Wash and pat dry all potatoes then cut them into bite-sized chunks and place in a mixing bowl. Quarter the onion then slice crosswise for small chunky sized slivers. Add to the potatoes. Pour olive oil on the veggies and add salt and pepper to taste. Mix well.* We like freshly ground sea salt and pepper corns for full flavor.
Place in a 13x9 baking dish and add insert rosemary cuttings in between the potatoes. Bake for 45 minutes or until desired roasted tenderness is achieved.
*Delicious served with a simple garden fresh salad and an old fashioned pot roast, roasted chicken or pan roasted fish.

The smell while it is baking is heavenly! What are some of your favorite root veggie combinations for roasting?

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 166 and FARM FRESH Flowers

Howdy friends and welcome back to your favorite farmgirl stomping grounds.
You may recognize this way too cute Flower Market Cart from my Facebook page and Farmgirl Chit-Chat. I fell head over heals in love with it and then I shared it so much that another farmgirl friend recognized it and pointed me directly to the maker of this genius flower cart. That's how I met  farm mama, blogger, seamstress, home builder and flower farmer,
Dori of  The Red Feedsack and Farm Fresh. blogs.
I'm so excited to introduce you to her today!

Here's one of her angels in a darling dress she made. Love the braids and the sweet little covered button at the top f the dress.  And, that print is just oozing farmgirl charm!

Dori, if you're reading today, I want you to know you have inspired me to move forward with my dream to sell my cut flowers! I'll be fashioning a  FARM STAND stand for my front yard just in time to start cutting my zinnias, sunflowers and dahlias!
Thank you for the beauty and inspiration you share on both of your blogs! It's simply delightful! Do you mind telling us where you had your adorable labels printed?

You can read all about how Farm Fresh came to be in Dori's column called Monthly Moo's! And learn how she and her husband built their beautiful farmhouse in the rolling hills of Tennessee from the ground up!

Inspired yet? There's more to come on the hop!

Be sure to stop by Big Sky Acres to see Debbie's ( aka Farmgirl Unleashed) beautiful blooms too! She resurrected them from a week of neglect ( while she was away bonding with her NEW grandson Arlo)  and they're glorious!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 163 and Homestead Cookbook Survey!

Happy Farmgirl Friday! What a week it's been here in New England. We've had picture perfect weather ( minus one afternoon rain shower) pleasant temps in the high 70's, no humidity and just the right amount of a sea breeze blowing to make it feel like summer. Kind of unusual for these parts, so we are relishing in our good weather fortune while it lasts. Speaking of relish, what better time to kick off a new Homestead Cookbook than in the growing season? After three plus years of everyone gathering here each Friday, sharing all things farmgirl AND delicious homestead recipes I've been inspired to put together a cookbook featuring YOUR homestead stories and recipes. To gauge interest in this little ole project of mine, I've created a survey which is linked to the button above in my sidebar.
I hope you'll take the time to take the survey, share a recipe, your  homestead story and be a part of The Homestead Cookbook anthology. It's sure to inspire homesteaders old and new alike! Oh, and please feel free to share the  button and link to the survey too!

Now it's time to get your farmgirl on! Link up and strut your gardening, cooking, crafting, farming, DIY, up cycling, STUFF!!!

Debbie at Farmgirl Unleashed  and my Co-hostess in Farmgirl Friday crime became a first time Grammie last week. She's home and ready to unleash her inner farmgirl ( and probably get her very leggy tomatoes planted) ...!

It's the season of plenty and there is so much to celebrate!

As always, we thank you for your participation in the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!

Homestead Cookbook Survey

Dear friends,
Have you ever had a creative idea that just won't let go of ya?
The kind that wakes you up at night, in the wee hours of the morning and pokes and prods at you throughout the day too? Me too!

I've been thinking for a while now that I'd love to write a cookbook featuring homesteaders ( and their recipes) inspired by the farmgirl and homesteading lifestyle and I need your help!

To gauge interest in the book I've created a survey where you can share a little about your homesteads and a favorite recipe! Yes! You will have a chance to be featured in the book!
My goal is to get to 100 recipes!
I hope you'll join in and share a special dish from your homestead!

                                                                        Here's the survey!

         Thanks so much!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 161 & My Tiny Harvest

Welcome back farmgirl friends and happy Farmgirl Friday. I'm so glad you are here to share what's doin' on your family farms and homesteads. June is an exciting time for us farmgirls isn't it?
Things are finally starting to bloom and most of our seeds and seedlings are in! This week one of my peonies came into bloom and the fragrance is just intoxicating. I've got three bouquet's in my kitchen/dining room area and I'm in heaven with the shear beauty and scent of these lovely old fashioned blooms. As I cut a bucket full to make bouquets I couldn't help but feel over joyed at the beauty of these blooms. After all, they are only here for such a short time!

Just like the ripe strawberries I picked from the garden too! Heck, I didn't even plant these little puppies. I'm pretty the previous owners planted them in a little bed at one time. When we expanded that same garden area I just left them there to see what would happen. They continue to spread and thrive. I wish I knew what variety they are.

Last year we got one tiny bowl of berries and the birds got the rest. This year the bounty was a little bigger and I think we'll get one more bowl full before our strawberry harvest season is over.

These didn't last long. I washed them and we at them as soon as I brought them in. No cooking, canning, or storing with such a tiny harvest. Just mouthwatering pleasure and instant farmgirl gratification! It's not the size of your plot or pot that makes your homestead " successful". When you appreciate every little growing thing you plant and care for you'll be blessed with bountiful rewards with the tiniest of harvests.

Lastly, I got my herbs and veggies planted in my raised beds yesterday under a very cloudy sky. Today, it's raining down on them!

It's hard to believe in a few short weeks it will look like this again!

What are you feeling especially happy about on your homesteads this June? Are you having success and trying new things? How about any challenges?
Link up and share your gardens, home remedies, recipes, and homesteading wisdom with your favorite farmgirls! And be sure to stop by and see my co-hostess Debbie at Farmgirl Unleashed .
She's Busy as a Bee with her new bee hives!
Let's hope she's been able to get back to work on her Indiana farm, Big Sky Acres!
