Farmgirl Friday # 35 and December Wishes

Woo hoo! It's Farmgirl Friday and the first day of December! The month of all things bright!
I've yet to begin decorating for Christmas ( well, except for the evergreen wreath I hung on the hen house today that doesn't even have a bow yet ) but, I'm starting to " feel " it... You know, the spirit of Christmas. Yesterday, I had to go down town for an appointment ( yeah, my weekly date with my chiropractor ) and things were hopping! The Town of Plymouth does a tree lighting ceremony every year and I got a peak at the guys high up in the bucket truck stringing lights in preparation for tomorrows festivities. Wreaths had been hung on the lamp posts that dot main street and small shop windows were clad in Christmas cheer! Well, that was all I needed to get me in the mood!  Stay tuned. I'm dreamin' up a new twist on my holiday decorating theme this year! I think you're gonna love it!

If you're new to this hop welcome and please join in! If you've been hopping with us for a while, great to have you here again and thanks so much for all you share. Oh, before we get going, do any of you bread making farmgirls have a favorite brand of bread maker ( besides your two hands ) ?

Here are the rules for the Farmgirl Friday blog hop!

1.) Write a post about your farmgirl lifestyle and brag a little about your farmgirl talents while your at it! Share what being a farmgirl means to you. Include lots of photos of your farm, crafts, animals, quilts, home decor projects and thrifty make overs, your backyard garden, chicken coop, recipes, studio or workshop. You get the idea!

2). Leave your entry in the Mr. Linky space to your Farmgirl Friday post.

3). Please include the Farmgirl Friday button ( or link back here ) in your post and remember to share this hop with all of your blogging friends!

I'm having such a hard time believing that it's already Christmas season. I look forward to seeing your decorations. I admit, I've never made bread with any machine~only my hands. :-)

Teresa, I'm already feeling guilty for asking about bread machines. I SHOULD just try making it with my own two hands. I should accept my own challenge then... well, it's settled then.

I have a Sunbeam and love it. Generally use it for cinnamon rolls, pizza dough and pasta dough. Huge time-saver, not to mention how it saves on my hands/arms (which have some nerve damage so they aren't as strong as they used to be--and I'd rather save 'em for sewing, knitting, quilting...!) It's probably 10 or 12 years old and still runs like a champ.

Thanks Cheree for the recommendation! I'll check it out...

I no longer use the breadmaker, wore it out, for now, I am using the kitchen aid mixer to whoop up some bread dough, and it works out the same for me. While I like the BD maker, I used it just for mixing up the dough and never baked in it, rather use the oven. So for me, it isn't as cost effective to have one.

Hi Faith! thanks for weighing in today. Sounds as if you've found your comfort zone in bread making! I just " kneed " to dive in and give it a go!HA!

Hi Deborah Jean

I say get the bread machine and use it on the dough cycle. It saves you time and is easier on your body. I agree with Cheree, I'd rather not wear out my wrists on dough -I have too much knitting to do :) My machine is nearly 6 years old.

LOL, I never thought of getting carpal tunnel from kneading bread- I always thought of it more as a 'chest workout'!
Your blog hops are so wonderful, I'm glad I joined the Hen House hop- it brought me so many fresh insights to others on the same journey. I'll be back again and again!
One note, while waiting to get a heat lamp, I'm using a halogen lamp (like men use in their garages when they've got their heads stuck under a vehicle hood) - I hung it directly over the metal waterer to keep it from freezing since I only have one electrical cord out there. It gives light, but I think it's too high in AV rays for longterm use. Later I hope to try growing some cool-weather plants INSIDE the coop - on shelves, taking advantage of the heat and natural light, as well. It gets SO dusty in the coop though... can't imagine all that dust on plant leaves.

I have two WestBend bread machines that I use to make all my bread for the Farmer's Market. I ordered them through walmart.com and took advantage of the site-to-store free shipping. I only use the dough cycle though. I also prefer to shape by hand to make rolls, braids, round loaves, etc. It is a big time saver and helps my poor old arthritic hands! :)

Oh this is wonderful ladies... I'm hearing more votes for mixing in the bread maker and baking in the oven... sounds like the perfect modern mix for homemade bread to me!
