So much for getting a running start on the new year! THE flu bug hit Dandelion House at warp speed right after New Years Day. First our daughter had it, then our son and I got it at the same time.
The only running we've done is from the couch then back to bed! Needless to day I'm way behind in getting my house in order for a proper start on the new year. Oh well. What can ya do? Stock up, that's what!
Plain old simple ( and healthy ) ingredients are what's called for when you are treating a bout of seasonal influenza!
BREAKFAST: OJ with pulp, bananas, pecans, oatmeal, agave, cranberries and vanilla bean yogurt.
LUNCH:Crackers with tuna or chicken salad, fresh fruit hot chicken broth or tea.
DINNER: Soup, grilled cheese sandwich, applesauce, small garden salad with slices of apple and cheddar cheese.
HYDRATE: Cherry flavored 7-up, Gatorade, water, fruit juice, sparkling soda, plain or flavored. And, popsicle's of course!
MEDICINE: Day time/night time cold medicine. A must for calming down achy muscles and minimizing coughing fits!
REST: I can't stress this one enough. All we've done is sleep off and on for the last three days. Today I feel human again.
Boz is the only one who hasn't been bit! Keep you fingers crossed he escapes it!
Here's to a healthier 2013 starting today!
Deb... could you pass the Kleenex please?
PS. how do you treat the flu in your house?
So sorry to hear that the flu bug paid you a visit!! Glad to hear that you are feeling better!!
Flu season causes me to go into freak out cleaning mode! Vinegar is a natural disinfectant, so everything we touch gets cleaned!! I try to spend a little extra time outside in the sunshine when I can, to hopefully prevent the flu! If it hits us, homemade chicken soup is on the menu! Lots of rest and some TLC for the poor victim!
Hope that you all continue to feel better!!
Knox on wood I don't get the flu!!! I know I shouldn't put this in print but I had it in fourth grade as my mom said. I'm not sure why but I don't question it.
So here's to getting better soon!!
We pretty much just ride through the flu with OJ, vitamin C, hot herbal tea and lots of rest. I'm thinking about adding elderberry to our regimen if only I could find some available---it's sold out everywhere!
Glad you are feeling human again!
You SUPER! Even while you're down with flu you still managed a lovely meal menu for the family:) Glad you're better. I suppose, a grand fullcourse meal is expected soon? ;)
When we get attacked by virus, all I offer for the family is water and more water, plus a 'just-help-yourself-to-whatever-food-you-could' meal menu.... fortunately, virus haven't visited us for a few years now:) It's only God's grace...
Hubby and I had the flu the week before Christmas. He was over it in about 4 days because he had the flu shot (work makes them), I cannot take the flu shot due to allergies (probably wouldn't anyway). It took me 9 days to start feeling like myself...which happened to be Christmas day. So glad to be over it!
Yikes! So sorry you're all sick. Sounds like you are doing all you can to make it better, so hopefully you get over it soon.
So far so good here for now ! I do hope you all feel better soon . Have a good day !
Hope all gets well!
Oh yeah, the flu hit Fabby's Living too! I just got better, but now my mom is a little sick. I hope you get better soon, but it made me read and rest for three days. Thank you for your kind and sweet visit..you made my day! Have a better week.
Chicken soup, tomato soup, soft klennex, ginger ale, crackers, brown rice cooked in chicken broth, applesauce, pudding, popsicles.
Hope you feel better soon ~ we've avoided the flu so far, but know many who haven't been so lucky.
My son came down with it Dec 19 and it hit me on the 21st. Wow was it awful! It has taken me a full two weeks to be back-up-to-speed. My son took tamiflu because he has struggled with upper respiratory issues in the past and our pediatrician thought it best to shorten his as much as possible. It was a good call because he ended up developing bronchitis behind the flu and is still hacking! I didn't take any meds, but chose to ride it out with lots of chicken soup, ginger ale, hot tea with ACV & Local honey, saline & ACV sinus rinses, and rest. I am glad you are on the mend!
None so far, and I hear this is the variety not covered by the shot so anyone is in danger of getting and spreading it. Since I work in a building with 400 other people, chances are it will be spreading now that we are all back from the holidays!
You guy's are just the best! Oh how your comments brightened my day!
We have been sick most of the summer and just before Christmas. I missed all of it. Last night I came down with a sore throat and stuffed up head. -- I pray that you all get well soon.
Looks like the people at your house get pretty good eats when sick! I think you should start a Dandelion House Menus tab! ~Becky
Flu vaccine!! I work in a hospital and started regularly getting the flu vaccine about 20 years ago and have never had the flu since. Until I took the vaccine, I would get it every yar and miss a week of school or work with fever, chills, bronchitis and exhaustion. I cannot imagine not getting the vaccine. With the new availability of it in some pharmacies now, it is very easy to get and affordable.
Oh no! How awful for you all. I am so glad to hear that you are on the mend! Finger are crossed for Boz :)~Melissa

Hoping you are feeling better soon! Thanks for stopping by and also for becoming a follower. I'm now following Dandelion House too.
Sorry to hear you got the flu...we've only had an irritating...I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO CALL IT!
First of all there is no fever...so it's almost like allergies...but it is being passed around like a cold. Sneezing, sniffling, and mostly upper respiratory!
Anyway--for the flu we treat with lots of fluids, chicken soup, NO SHOTS! We take hot baths with salt rubs, mostly water, no juice (it further's dehydration)
I'm not a doctor...but these are things we do.
Hope all are on the mend there. Stay well in 2013~ Pat
